It depends a bit on the study you read, but somewhere between 50 and 75% of managers are ineffective.


At best, bad bosses just doesn't get that much done, but toxic bosses can also make your life become a nightmare - their bad behavior can saps the joy and drive you to exhaustion.

1. the absent boss

An absent boss can be a good thing - you can go about your business. But where is your manager if you need him? If you get into trouble, you need a boss who stands behind you. You also need your manager to discuss the right approach to a problem and to make decisions. If your manager does not show up or runs away from problems, it can make your position very difficult and very lonely.


2. the bully

Managers sometimes do not know how to behave when managing a team. They can be rude have a bad mouth or simply bully. This abusive behavior can be hurtful at best, or even completely unacceptable. Stand up against bullies!


3. the critical manager

The critical boss thinks that people will work better if she is always critical. What she forgets is that this makes people angry and insecure and that it is just as important to give compliments regularly.

5. the micromanager

how can you deal with a bad manager?


1. MAKE NOTES

Write down things that happen and that you notice about your manager.

  • You'll get a better understanding of what is going on.

  • Things that you write down, you don't have to ruminate about it.

  • You have a log that you can use if you decide to talk to the Human Resources Department.


2. UNDERSTAND HIS 'INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE'

Try to understand why your boss operates as he does. Is he insecure? Is he anxious about his position in the team or about the team's performance? Then try to reassure him. In this way, you will gradually understand your manager's manual, and learn how to deal with the situation.


3. BE STRATEGIC

If you have a bad manager, you can easily become very angry, frustrated or anxious. But you are the one who suffers the most from these emotions. Try not to get too emotional, but deal with the situation strategically.


4. HAVE A CONVERSATION

If you have problems with your manager, it is of course very important to talk to her. The funny thing is that most people don't do that. It's understandable. Talking about the negative behavior of your boss is a difficult conversation to have, but it might also solve a lot of your problems. Be brave, prepare well for the meeting and chances are it will solve a lot of things. Another option is to talk to the HR department.


5. Look for a new job

Sometimes the situation is so bad that it is better to look for a new job. Take a leap of faith and jump into the job search- you never knowwhere the journey will take you or what amazing opportunities await.
